UGC has released an important notice for PhD students against misleading advertisements by EduTech companies in collaboration with Foreign Educational Institutes.
For PhD students, the University Grants Commission, or UGC, has published an important notice. The warning is intended to prevent PhD candidates from being misled by advertisements for online PhD programmes provided by EduTech companies working with foreign educational institutions.
In this regard, the Commission has published a notice that makes it abundantly clear that students and the general public should not be duped by advertisements for online programmes provided by EduTech companies in collaboration with any foreign educational institutions because the UGC does not accredit these online programmes.
The Commission already has a process in place for conferring PhDs on students. According to the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil/Ph.D Degrees) Regulations, 2016, a PhD degree is granted. The notice states that in order to confer PhD degrees, all Indian Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) must adhere to UGC norms and their revisions.
UGC posted this bit of information to its official Twitter account. According to the tweet, UGC urges students and the general public not to be duped by marketing for online PhD programmes provided by EduTech companies in partnership with Foreign Educational Institutes. Please refer to the public notice attached for more information. (Source: Hindustan Times)
