Universities are currently permitted by the UGC to provide a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in the humanities, social sciences, and arts.
A new range of college degree designations, including a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in fields like the arts, humanities, management, and commerce, are being considered by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is being followed as this choice is being made.
Universities are currently allowed by the UGC to provide a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in the arts, humanities, and social sciences, as well as a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in the sciences.
However, a committee established by the UGC to review degree nomenclatures has recommended that the new four-year undergraduate honours (or honours with research) degree programme, regardless of the discipline, can also be offered as a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. The NEP 2020 advocates reforming undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
Universities may also use the Master of Science (MS) designation for one- and two-year postgraduate studies, including those in the humanities, business, management, and arts.
