The Ministry has asked the UGC and AICTE to urge institutions to conduct frequent meetings with all potential/scholarship holders and advise them to apply for renewal as soon as possible.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has decided to approach students about the post-matric scholarship through the University Grants Commission (UGC) and AICTE. The decision was made when the number of renewal cases did not match the number of new registrations. The Ministry has asked the UGC and AICTE to request that institutions have frequent meetings with all potential/scholarship holders and advise them to seek renewal as soon as possible. Â
AICTE has been asked to give relevant advisories to all educational institutions/universities/colleges so that frequent meetings are organised under nodal officers and information is communicated with concerned beneficiaries so that as many students as possible apply.
The Ministry’s major welfare initiative is the officially financed post-matric scholarship. The plan benefits thousands of students. According to official sources, the scheme’s goal is to secure and increase the Gross Enrollment Ratio and raise the educational condition of disadvantaged SC kids in the country.
The plan will be conducted in a DBT manner, with the principal being paid directly into the accounts of the beneficiaries.
In the Ministry’s letter to AICTE, it says, “For proper and timely release of the scholarship, strict timelines are being followed as provided in the scheme guidelines.” It has been observed by the Ministry that the number of renewal cases is not matching up to the expectations as well as fresh registrations done every year. The Ministry is taking various steps to plug out such gaps.
