A total number of 48,000 rank card holders have expressed dissatisfaction with the excessive delay in counselling after obtaining their ranks more than a month ago, particularly in light of the fact that many seats in several engineering colleges in the State remain unfilled virtually every year.
The Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) results were released more than a month ago, however as of yesterday (Thursday), the counselling procedure has already begun, and the wait for engineering aspirants has finally been over.
However, the inordinate delay in counselling despite receiving ranks more than a month back has irked 48,000 rank card holders, particularly when many seats of several engineering colleges in the State remain vacant almost every year.
As per reports, the OJEE has announced to start counselling in three phases for 39,000 engineering seats in 10 government and 80 private engineering colleges from tomorrow.
“Counselling has not been done even after the publication of results a month back. Students are clueless about what to do and are utterly confused. I would request the government to conduct the counselling as soon as possible so that the students can prepare for their future course of action,” said a student Sushant Sethi.
Meanwhile, the results of Special OJEE are around the corner. Sources said, the Skill Development & Technical Education department delayed the counselling to club them with the rank holders of special OJEE and hold combined counselling.
“One OJEE has already gone and now the special OJEE results are around the corner. Rank holders of the first OJEE want to get their hands on the study materials first,” said co-founder of BPUT Students Council, Anantanarayan Jena.
President of OJEE Cell, Prabin Kar said, “We were waiting for the seat approval by the AICTE to complete, the last date of which was June 30. Without the AICTE approval, it is not possible to display the seat matrix to the students. Once the BPUT gets the college-wise seat approval, then only we can begin the counselling.”
It is pertinent to mention here that OJEE 2023 results were published on June 2. A total of 55,979 candidates applied for the entrance test. While 48,815 students appeared for the same, 48,783 qualified for the exam.
Later in the day, the OJEE authorities announced the tentative schedule of activity (Counselling) for BTech, BArch, BPlan, BCAT, and Int MSc students.
As per the notification, the registration and choice-filling activity will commence on July 6 and continue till July 15. Reconciliation of data, verification and validation of allocated seats will be done on July 16.
Display of allotment (Round 1) will commence on July 19 and continue till July 26. Display of allotment (Round 2) will start from July 31 and continue till August 5. Display of allotment (Round 3) will begin on August 8 and continue till August 14.
