The second week of January will mark the beginning of registration for these credit courses, with the announcement of the registration date for the examination coming later.
The Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through SWAYAM Regulation for the semester beginning in January 2023 has been announced by the All-India Institute for Technical Education (AICTE) as a set of online course options.
As per the latest AICTE notification, as many as six online credit courses will be offered during the January 2023 semester. According to the Credit Framework Regulations, higher education institutions are only permitted to grant credits for up to 40% of the total courses offered in a given programme during a semester while taking them online through the SWAYAM platform.Â
“Enrollment for these credit courses would begin in the second week of January, and the examination registration date would be announced later,” the AICTE letter stated.
It is pertinent to mention that the University Grants Commission (UGC) notified the UGC Regulation (Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through SWAYAM) in March 2021. This facilitated an institution’s ability to allow credit transfer for up to 40 percent of the total courses offered by any higher education institution in a particular programme in a semester through online learning courses on the SWAYAM platform.Â
AICTE has also adopted credit transfers up to 40 percent on UGC patterns in continuation of AICTE’s (Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through SWAYAM) Regulation and has already requested this of all universities and colleges from time to time.
