Under the condition of anonymity, another college director said that someone posing as a member of the AICTE chairman’s staff had asked for a sizable sum of money to quash a complaint against the college.
Madhya Pradesh’s Indore Following a deluge of complaints, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has issued a public notice warning higher education institutions about con artists calling institutes of higher learning and posing as the chairman of the AICTE in order to obtain sensitive information.
The public notice read, โIt has come to the notice of AICTE that some fraudsters are making fake calls to various universities /institutions /colleges using the name of the chairman, AICTE, and asking them to provide telephone numbers (contact numbers) and confidential information about the institution.โ
The AICTE clarified that neither the chairman nor any officer from AICTE is contacting any university, institution, or college to make such demands.
AICTE has instructed all universities, institutions, and colleges to avoid entertaining such calls. It has also urged them to immediately inform the assistant director at AICTE (Phone No: 011-29581024) and report the matter to the respective police station, while sending a copy of the complaint to AICTE.
Awadhesh Dave, Chairman of AISECT College, said he received a phone call from someone claiming to be a staff member of the AICTE chairman. The caller asked for information about the college through a personal email address.
Dave alerted the AICTE office about the incident. Another college director, who requested anonymity, said someone posing as a member of the AICTE chairmanโs office demanded a large sum of money to suppress a complaint against the college.
